On the way east, we stopped for a quick break in Pennsboro. Cheryl decided she wanted to drive the train for the rest of the ride.

We rode on east past Toll Gate towards Central Station when the trail began to turn from gravel to soggy grass. It wasn't long before we made a unamimous group decision to turn around and head back to Pennsboro for lunch. The heat was draining.

Once back to the campground, it was time for food and refreshments. Kaye had planned to make an apple treat (sorry Kaye...I don't know the true name). She sat and whittled away on the apples for quite a while, then pulled out a bag of marshmallows to spread across the top. Unfortunately, the extreme heat had turned the bag of tiny white puffs into one large gooey white glob. All was not lost! We managed to get the sticky glob on top of the apples, and it soon melted away. It was worth the wait!!!

Eddie, Debbie and Ken returned to the rail trails Sunday, while the rest of the group did the Pullman/Harrisville Loop road ride. (The rest, minus John, who ended Saturday with a cracked head tube on his hybrid.) According to Mike, "the route was spectacular with several long climbs and non-stop scenery. The heat was a factor again and had an impact on all of us. One long stretch had us parallel to a clear mountain stream and it was too much to resist. We dropped the bikes and shed helmets and shoes for a good cooling.

Bob reported a reading of 95 degrees on Sunday and I had a reading of 91 at 7:00pm as we passed through Marietta on the way home. Probably a little too warm for such a demanding 62 mile ride this early in the season but this route is definitely worth a repeat."
